महानता की एक मूक परिभाषा।
महानता। इस शब्द की अनेक परिभाषाएँ हैं। बँधे शब्दों में, स्वार्थ से ऊपर उठकर किये गए व्यवहार व्यक्ति को महान बनाते हैं। त्याग, समर्पण, प्रेम, परोपकार, निश्छलता, इत्यादि व्यवहार महानता के बीज हैं। लोकप्रियता। जरूरी नहीं कि लोकप्रियता महानता हो। सोशल मीडिया के दौर में यह बात और भी अहम हो जाती है। ऐसे में, महानता की हुई अपनी एक अनुभूति आपसे साझा करना चाहूँगा।
जिसके सानिध्य में आकर आपका क़द बड़ा लगने लगे, जो आपको बड़े होने की अभिभूति करवा दे, वो महान है। आजकल चलन में इसका उल्टा देखने को मिलता है। लोग बड़प्पन बटोरते चलते हैं। महान लोगों से मिली बड़प्पन की अनुभूति औपचारिक नहीं, आत्मीय होती है। ऐसे व्यक्तित्व कभी उपदेश नहीं देते, बल्कि उनका जीवन, उनका व्यवहार ही गीता-रामायण होता है। जरूरत सिर्फ़ पढ़ने और अनुसरण करने की होती है। हमारे आस-पास बहुत-सी ऐसी सख़्शियतें होती हैं, जिनसे हम प्रेरित होते हैं, या हो सकते हैं । प्रेरणा का स्रोत यदि लोकल हो तो, यह और असरदार होता है। ऐसे व्यक्तित्व हमारे ही परिवेश में संघर्ष करके एक अनुकरणीय प्रतिमान बन जाते हैं। कोयले को उस कोयले से प्रेरित होना चाहिए, जो संघर्ष करके हीरा बना। यदि कोयला किसी दूर की खदान से निकलने वाले सोने से प्रेरित होगा, तो अधिक-से-अधिक वह सोना ही बन सकेगा।
तस्वीर में बाएँ से पहले हैं श्रद्देय श्री राघवेंद्र सिंह सर जी, पूर्व पुलिस उपाधीक्षक, उत्तर प्रदेश पुलिस। ये ईमानदारी और कर्तव्यपरायणता की परिभाषा हैं। पुलिस में यदि ईमानदारी मिल जाए तो ऐसे ही महान हो जाए। ईमानदार पुलिस एक यह दुर्लभ प्रजाति है। बीच में हैं श्रद्धेय गुरु डॉ. धीरेंद्र सिंह सर जी, पूर्व प्रधानाचार्य उदय प्रताप इण्टर कॉलेज, वाराणसी हैं। इनका जीवन एक तपस्वी का जीवन रहा है। इन्होने बहुत सारे लोगों के सपने साकार किये हैं। (दाएँ ,मैं हूँ)। 28.12.2023 को ली यह गई तस्वीर जब भी सामने से गुजरी, उस दिन हुई महानता की परिभाषा की अनुभूति को कलमबद्ध करना चाहता था। आज यह काम माँ सरस्वती की कृपा से पूरा हो रहा है।
Greatness. This word has many definitions. In simple terms, actions that rise above self-interest make a person great. Sacrifice, dedication, love, altruism, sincerity—these are the seeds of greatness.
Popularity. It is not necessary that popularity equals greatness. In the age of social media, this becomes even more important to understand. In this context, I would like to share a personal experience of what greatness feels like.
Someone in whose presence you begin to feel elevated, who makes you feel like a better and bigger person—that is greatness. Nowadays, we often see the opposite: people trying to accumulate a sense of superiority. The feeling of elevation you get from truly great individuals is not formal, but deeply personal and heartfelt. Such personalities do not preach; rather, their lives and actions themselves become like the Gita and Ramayana. One only needs to observe and follow them.
Around us, there are many such individuals who inspire us—or can inspire us. If the source of inspiration is local, it becomes even more powerful. Such personalities, through struggle within our own environment, become exemplary role models. Coal should be inspired by the coal that, through struggle, became a diamond. If coal is inspired by gold mined from a distant place, at best it may only become gold.
In the picture, on the left is respected Shri Raghavendra Singh, former Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Uttar Pradesh Police. He is the very definition of honesty and duty. If honesty is found in the police force, it is in people like him—truly rare. In the center is respected Guru Dr. Dhirendra Singh, former principal of Uday Pratap Inter College, Varanasi. His life has been that of a true ascetic. He has helped turn the dreams of many into reality. (On the right, it is me.)
This photograph, taken on 28.12.2023, always reminded me of that day and the feeling of greatness I experienced. I had long wanted to put that feeling into words. Today, by the grace of Goddess Saraswati, that task is complete.
